Masato tells his wife he will be home in forty minutes, then turns back toward Restaurant Minoru. He says he forgot something, takes the last table, and listens as an old acquaintance’s trouble calls him away. When Ren asks whether he is leaving, Masato finally makes the choice he has been avoiding: he will stay.
正人は妻に「四十分で戻る」と告げたあと、洋食屋ミノルの暖かな看板の前で進路を変える。忘れ物をしたと口実を作り、最後のテーブルに座るが、久しぶりの人物の窮状を告げる電話が彼を連れ戻そうとする。蓮に「帰りますか」と静かに問われたとき、正人はずっと避けていた選択を口にする――「いや。俺が残る」。
